Animal Science

Get ready to go wild! In this Animal Science class, campers will explore the amazing world of animals—big and small. Observe, investigate, and learn about their habitats, behaviors, and care while getting hands-on with activities like feeding, grooming, and building enrichment for our animal friends. From mammals to reptiles and everything in between, you’ll uncover the science behind the creatures we share our world with—and maybe even discover your inner zoologist

Campfire Cooking

Going on a day hike or an overnight campout? Campers will learn how to make simple, tasty, and fun foods that will keep them going all day. Learn how to cook over a campfire so you can share your new favorites with friends and family on your next camping trip. *Closed-toe shoes required.

Canoeing

A paddle, a life jacket, and a canoe – it doesn’t get much better than this!  Come to class prepared to learn some basic canoeing strokes, safety, and have fun as you navigate the wild, wonderful waters of Lake Culpeper!  If you are lucky you might even get to go for a dip if you choose to tip your canoe on the last day.  *Old shoes, water shoes, or strapped sandals required (Crocs WITH heel straps are okay).

Creeks and Critters

Love exploring, adventuring, and discovering cool things you didn’t even know to look for? This class is packed with “wow!” moments as we turn the outdoors into our classroom. We’ll splash into investigations at Happy Creek, hike along the Appalachian Trail, build habitats for wildlife, and uncover the amazing plants and animals that call Lake Culpeper home. Get ready to get curious, get moving, and see nature in a whole new way!

Fitness Fun

Strengthen your head, heart, hands, and health through fitness. Have a ball as you take part in some of the most popular camp games and activities, including Yoga, Gau-Gau, pickleball,  four square, basketball, volleyball, soccer, kickball, ultimate frisbee, disc golf, flag football, and more! Perfect for those who want to learn the basics and rules of the games or just get active.  Each cluster will decide what activities they’re most interested in. *Closed-toe shoes required.

Fishing

Join us for a hands-on fishing experience! This class will cover essential angling skills, ethical fishing practices, and the importance of recycling to protect our waterways. No experience is necessary, and all equipment will be provided. Whether you're casting a line for the first time or refining your technique, you'll enjoy a fun and educational time by the water.

High Challenge Course

Having accomplished the Low Challenge Course, adventurers can advance their skills through the High Ropes Challenges.  With proper safety equipment, and under the watchful eye of trained facilitators, adventurers can advance their skills by scaling the Climbing Wall and taking a Leap of Faith on our newest high element. Make no mistake: these elements require as much -- if not more -- teamwork as the Low Challenge Course. This is a two-period class and is only offered once (periods 2&3 combined). *Closed-toe shoes required.

You MUST be 12 years old+ to register for this class.

Leadership Development / Counselor-in- Training (CIT)

Leadership is more than just a title—are you ready to step up? In this hands-on class, you’ll build confidence while practicing communication, teamwork, and leadership the 4-H way. Get ready for group challenges, creative problem-solving, and plenty of chances to lead, influence others, and discover your own leadership style—all while having a blast!

Low Ropes / Team Building

Ready to put your teamwork to the test? On our Low Challenge Course, you’ll communicate, problem-solve, and support one another as you tackle fun (and tricky!) team challenges together. Every element is designed to build trust, cooperation, and confidence—because success here depends on the whole group. Just watch out for the Spider Web… getting through takes strategy, encouragement, and everyone pitching in! Closed-toe shoes required.

Outdoor Living Skills

Learn all about the skills it takes to thrive and survive in the outdoors. Pitching tents, hiking, and campfire building are all things you will tackle in this class! Oh, yeah, and everyone who takes this class will get to eat s’mores while learning about the stars that exist in the night sky! *Closed-toe shoes required.

Swimming

Intermediate - For campers who can swim unaided across the pool and feel comfortable in depths over 4 feet. This class covers more advanced strokes, uses the diving board, and other fun water activities.

Line Dancing

Let’s get on the dance floor and have some fun! Campers will learn all kinds of moves from the Cha-Cha Slide to the  Virginia reel. Show off your moves at the camp dance or on the pool deck and teach your friends! Through the art of dance and performing techniques, campers’ confidence will soar!

Multimedia

Lights, camera, action… and byline! In this multimedia class, campers will explore photography and journalism to tell the story of camp. Snap amazing photos, learn how to crop and edit them, and turn your images into dynamic presentations. Then, step into the world of reporting—interview campers, teens, and staff, write articles, and create fun columns for our very own camp newspaper. Your work will be showcased at the camp closing ceremony for everyone to enjoy!

PERFORMING ARTS

Let’s take the stage and make some noise! Campers will dive into the world of performing arts through improv games, creative skits, line dancing, and hands-on percussion and music activities. Whether you’re acting out a scene, keeping the beat, or moving with confidence, there’s a place for everyone to shine. Show off your talents during camp showcases or spontaneous performances with friends! Through creativity, collaboration, and performance, campers will build confidence, express themselves, and have a blast doing it.
